POTS Replacement for Mission-Critical Analog Communications

Manley Solutions provides managed replacement for legacy analog telephone lines (POTS) supporting elevator phones, emergency phones, fire alarm panels, fax machines, SCADA equipment, and gate/intercom systems — with purpose-built equipment selected for each application.

The POTS Line Problem

Major carriers are retiring the copper telephone infrastructure that has supported analog communications for decades. As POTS lines are sunset, organizations face:

  • Rising monthly costs for legacy copper lines
  • Degraded service quality and longer repair times
  • Lines being discontinued with limited notice
  • Compliance obligations that do not go away

Elevator phones, fire alarm panels, emergency phones, fax machines, and SCADA equipment still need telephone-line connectivity. The challenge is replacing the underlying transport without breaking the equipment that depends on it — while accounting for the technical and jurisdictional requirements that apply to the connected system.

Managed POTS Replacement — Not a Universal Adapter

Manley Solutions replaces POTS lines with managed cellular communications, but we do not use a single adapter for every application. Different applications require different purpose-built equipment. Selecting the appropriate device for each application is essential to maintaining compatibility and meeting applicable requirements.

Voice / Full-Duplex Applications

Elevators, emergency phones, and other applications requiring actual voice calls require voice-capable equipment supporting the necessary calling and signaling functions. These devices provide a dial tone and support two-way voice communication.

Fire Alarm Applications

Commercial fire alarm systems use a different purpose-built communications solution. The device provides the required communications interface and supports DTMF/Contact ID signaling to compatible monitoring infrastructure. It is not a normal telephone adapter and is not intended to make or receive ordinary telephone calls.

How It Works

1

Site Assessment

We inventory your existing POTS lines, identify each application, and determine the right equipment for each.

2

Equipment Selection

Voice applications get voice-capable equipment. Fire alarm applications get purpose-built fire alarm communications adapters. Each application gets the right solution.

3

Professional Installation

Our technicians install and configure equipment at each site, working with elevator contractors and fire alarm vendors where required.

4

Activation & Testing

We activate service, verify call quality and signaling, and confirm central station communication where applicable.

5

Managed Service

Red Tag Lines provides ongoing service management and remote visibility into supported communications equipment and connectivity. Available monitoring capabilities vary by device and application.

Technical Considerations

Carrier Connectivity

Carrier options are selected based on application requirements and available coverage at each site. Multi-carrier configurations may be available for supported deployments.

Battery Backup

Battery-backed equipment is available where the application requires continued communications during a loss of commercial power. Requirements vary by system and jurisdiction.

E911 Location

Location and emergency-calling configuration may be provided for supported voice and emergency-phone applications. Fire alarm and non-voice applications use different communications requirements.

Code Compliance

Applicable requirements may include ASME A17.1, NFPA 72, local codes, and Authority Having Jurisdiction requirements depending on the connected system.
