Commercial fire alarm systems use a different purpose-built communications solution. Commercial fire alarm control panels (FACPs) communicate alarm, trouble, and supervisory signals to a central monitoring station over telephone lines. The most common signaling format is Contact ID, which transmits event codes using DTMF tones. The central station receiver decodes these tones and dispatches the appropriate response.
